- students must have a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder
- students must attend a school within the Greater Toronto Area
- students must be of elementary-school age
- students must complement the existing student population
- the Special Education Administration in the child's local school board must support the child's application

- Parents display a past and present commitment to their child's emotional, social, behavioural, nutritional, communicative and academic development.
- Parents agree to enter into a partnership with Giant Steps to develop team goals and objectives in their child's individual education plan meetings; attend behavioural support meetings, observational days and training seminars; participate in nutritional plans and research; and participate in parent committee work and fundraising events.
- Parents agree to pay an annual fee for therapeutic services; Giant Steps Toronto will not refuse a family that is unable to pay the fee.
- Parents agree to actively participate in constructive fundraising and report monthly on these activities.
- Funding for the academic program is provided by the Ministry Of Education and is administered through the York Region District School Board.
- Funding for the children's therapies is raised by the parent group through extensive fundraising activities.
- Annual parent fees help to offset the cost of therapy services.
